Pokémon Go Safety for Your Kids

If your children are playing Pokémon Go, there are a few things you should know to keep them safe.

This game gets them up and moving.  Getting off of the couch and walking to neighborhood parks and other public places may seem like the game we have all been waiting on, however you must talk with them about safety.

As your child looks for battles on their journey, It is a great chance your child will encounter other Pokémon Go players, which will not all be children.  Many adults are seeking this augmented reality pocket creature too. So taking the time to actually look up from your device is critical to having them play safe.  News reports of people walking into the streets, falling into water may sound ridiculous but is a reality.

Additionally, all property is not up for searching. Reports of gamers trespassing in cemeteries, private property and even jumping fences have been reported.  What makes the game even more of a safety concern is that strangers can use “lure modules” to get you into areas that are not intended for game play.

The excitement of a “battle” with another gamer can be fun, but there should be a limit to where the game is played. Museums, churches and national monuments urging gamers not to play have become a sign of the times.  Remember to arm your child with good common sense tips on interacting with strangers and to be mindful of their surroundings at all times.

Don’t let the hunt for this pint-sized creature become a safety hazard for your family.
