3 Steps for Spreading Holiday Cheer
We’ve made it to the last month of the year! For some people that can be very exciting, for others this can be the hardest month to get through. So let’s get you prepared to go out this year with a bang!
If you are one of those individuals that seems to get down around this time of year don’t fret! We’re here to help, and you most certainly are not alone. Studies show that 1 in 5 people will experience depression in their lifetime. [Source] Suicide rates go up around any holiday, but it is especially prevelent in the months of November and December. We want to help alieviate that. Let’s start with these steps:
1. Volunteer
One of the greatest ways to get your mind of whatever has you stressed this season is volunteering. Try spending a couple of hours at a gift or food drive, or serving food to the less fortunate in the city. Not only will you be helping those in need, but the feeling you’ll get from doing so will be the ultimate reward.
2. Surround yourself around loved ones
This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s common for people to isolate themselves around the holidays. It’s also what can bring on seasonal depression in the first place. Try being around your family and friends a little more. If you can’t, give us a call. We’ve got therapists on hand to talk to you, or resources on places you can go.
3. Don’t worry about what you don’t have
For many, the stress of trying to keep our loved ones happy this season can be overwhelming. From not having enough money to buy nice gifts, to making sure that everyone has a seat at the dinner table, don’t worry about what you can’t give. Focus on what you can. As long as you’re giving from the heart, that’s all that matters. It will still have an impact.
We hope that these tips get you through the holidays and well into the New Year! If you’d like to get further assistance this season, we can help! Contact us today. So you live™. Please have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
