Happy Monday! As you know, this weekend we have an awesome event coming up this weekend in partnership with the John Fair III Spinal Cord Injury Foundation titled “Caregivers Over Coffee”. We hope to see you there this weekend, but in the meantime we wanted to share 5 tips to make sure that you’re the best caregiver that you can be!

1. Give your friend a call.

If you can’t remember the last time you got to hang out with your friend or loved one, then that means it’s been long overdue to spend some time together. Give them a call just to catch up over the phone or set a date to meet for lunch.

2. See your doctor.

With you constantly providing care for others, it may also mean that you’re constantly getting sick. Make sure that you’re making time to schedule your routine checkups with your doctor. Even if you are healthy as can be, let’s make sure you stay that way!

3. Get up and get outside.

One of the most common things you’ll hear a caregiver say is that they do not have time for exercise. Even if you feel like there’s simply no time for you to break a sweat at the gym, try to find time to break away for 15-20 minutes and take a walk. Take in the scenery all around you, breathe in fresh air… your body will thank you for it.

4. Do your favorite thing.

Grab some popcorn, get cozy in your blanket, and binge watch your favorite shows on Netflix. Your role as a caregiver is so crucial and very serious, so why not take the time to do something you love when you’re off duty?

5. Eat more fruits and veggies!

A main key to staying healthy is eating healthy. You ever notice how you feel sluggish after eating from your favorite fast food resturant? That’s your body trying to tell you something: you need more nutrients. When you increase your intake of fruits and vegetables you’re decreasing your risk of various diseases and cancer. Not to mention, you’ll have much more energy to take on a full day of caregiving without feeling like you’re going to doze off at any moment. It will help with all the tips above overall, so hit your local produce providers!

Now go forth, and be the best caregiver you can be! Have a great Monday and an amazing rest of the week!
