National Mental Health Month

With April showers, we’re brought May flowers along with another cause to spotlight. May is National Mental Health Month, and we here at BES Group & Associates/Solutions Plus want to give you some ways to help continue the conversation of our mental health. It is very important that people know that mental health should be treated just as seriously as any physical illness. Being that we are an outpatient facility, BES Group makes it easy and convenient to get the help that you need. With services for psychiatric evaluations, psychotropic medication management, individual counseling, couples counseling, and psychological testing, we can help with any issue under the mental health umbrella. Just in case you can’t make your way to any of our locations for assistance, we thought we’d provide you with some different ways for you to cope at home. So you live™.

  1. Download Headspace. This is an app that you can download on your phone or you can log onto the website. It’s like a personal trainer for your mind that will help you concentrate on your breathing, how to focus more, and how to sleep better. It’s free to sign up. Why not give it a try?

  2. Try adult coloring. If you haven’t seen these books all over your local stores, you may want to take a second look. From stores like Target to Marshall’s, you can find one of these books for $5 or less. The designs are far more detailed than a regular children’s coloring book, and can boost your creativity all while reducing your stress levels. Who said that coloring is just for kids anyway?

  3. Pamper yourself. Whether that means going to a spa for a pedicure or massage or taking the time to fix yourself a nice bath at home, remember that you deserve to treat yourself good often. It’s good for our mental health. A lot of us probably need to do this more. There’s certainly no harm in this.

  4. Go outside. There are thousands of studies that have shown that being outside in nature has positive affects on our mental health. If you’re at work, take your breaks outside and look at your surroundings. Stepping away from that assignment and taking a look at the trees around or listening to the sounds outside can make your days so much better. On the weekends go to a park or ride a bike or walk around your neighborhood. You’ll be happy you did.

  5. Drink water. Studies show that drinking water helps our brains function. Without it, our bodies have a difficult time functioning properly. You can find out more about how it helps our brains function here.

Of course there are lots of other ways to cope at home and we’ll be sharing some more tips and articles all throughout this month on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Feel free to communicate with us and share some of your tips and information as well! We’d love to have dialogue on all of our social sites. We hope that all of these tips can be useful to your life in some way or another and that you’d pass this on to anyone that you may know! Happy May everyone. Have a wonderful and safe month. So you live™.
