National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

America’s Independence Day is here and our country turns 240 years old this year! Wow! This country has had many ups, downs, and milestones, but it would be nothing without the people in it! Over half of the children born here today are minorities, and pretty soon it looks like they will become the majority! [Source] With the general stigma attached to mental health in general, many minorities are not getting treatment. This has to change. July has been proclaimed as National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month since May 2008 thanks to advocate Bebe Moore Campbell!

The resolution was sponsored by Rep. Albert Wynn [D-MD] and cosponsored by a large bipartisan group to achieve two goals:
  1. Improve access to mental health treatment and services and promote public awareness of mental illness.

  2. Name a month as the Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month to enhance public awareness of mental illness and mental illness among minorities. – See more at: https://www.nami.org/Get-Involved/Awareness-Events/National-Minority-Mental-Health-Awareness-Month/Learn-About-Minority-Mental-Health-Month#sthash.vt2hQxcH.dpuf
