PTSD Awareness Month

When you think of PTSD what comes to your mind first? Veterans maybe? A lot of times people often overlook the fact that roughly 7.8% of all Americans will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. [Source] So why is the emphasis mainly on our veterans and not everyone as a whole? Everyone should be the focus when it comes to mental health. Not just one group of people. So, that’s what this month is all about: bringing awareness. We want to encourage you to look deeper at the causes of PTSD and who it can affect.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a disorder that develops in some people who have seen or lived through a shocking, scary, or dangerous event, can affect anyone, at any time. Someone experiencing PTSD can have symptoms such as:

  1. Re-experiencing the trauma through intrusive distressing recollections of the event, flashbacks, and nightmares.

  2. Emotional numbness and avoidance of places, people, and activities that are reminders of the trauma.

  3. Increased arousal such as difficulty sleeping and concentrating, feeling jumpy, and being easily irritated and angered.

While not everyone will develop PTSD after a traumatic event, it’s important to make sure that no one is left behind.

BES Group & Associates/Solutions Plus has services for mental illnesses such as PTSD and much more. With our new psychiatric services, we ensure that you will get the best care! Our wonderful staff is here to make sure that everyone is taken care of! So you live™.
